Why Chess?

There is increased recognition that playing chess develops and improves skills in mathematics and reading.

Playing chess helps curb impulsive thinking and introduces children to the concept of consequence management.

Chess is a great tool for problem solving, concentration building, and socialization. I love it and appreciate its combination of art, science, and sport. I also find it meditative when I am totally immersed in a game.

My goal as a teacher is to help the children understand the fundamentals of the game of chess so that they play with confidence and with a solid foundation with which to continue their learning and enjoyment of the game over the years.
